Day Kimball Hospital Receives 5th Consecutive ‘A’ Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade

05/04/2023

Day Kimball Hospital has again received an ‘A’ Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade for the spring of 2023. The prestigious recognition marks the fifth consecutive ‘A’ grade earned for Day Kimball since the fall of 2021. This national distinction recognizes Day Kimball Hospital’s achievements in prioritizing patient safety by protecting patients from preventable harm and errors.

“We are incredibly honored to receive a fifth consecutive “A’ grade from the Leapfrog Group,” said Kyle Kramer, chief executive officer, Day Kimball Health. “This recognition is representative of the caliber of our clinical team and the tremendous work being done in service to our patients. We take our role as stewards of the health and well-being Northeast Connecticut very seriously, and the ability to consistently achieve this level of distinction is something that makes us very proud. We have been committed to serving patients for the past 129 years, and we look forward to continuing to provide high quality service to our region for the next 129 years and beyond.”

The Leapfrog Group, an independent national watchdog organization, assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” or “F” grade to general hospitals across the country based on over 30 national performance measures reflecting errors, accidents, injuries and infections, as well as systems hospitals have in place to prevent harm.

“This new update of Hospital Safety Grades shows that, at the national level, we saw deterioration in patient safety with the pandemic,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “But this hospital received an ‘A’ despite those challenges. I congratulate all the leaders, staff, volunteers and clinicians who together made that possible.”

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program based exclusively on hospital prevention of medical errors and harm to patients. The grading system is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
